Softball Splits With Bentley

GAME 1 BOX SCORE     GAME 2 BOX SCORE

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University and Bentley University split a Northeast-10 softball doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.  The Falcons posted a 7-0 win in the opener before the Penmen rallied for a 3-2 win in the nightcap.  SNHU is 7-9 overall and 4-2 in the NE-10, while the Falcons now stand 7-7 and 4-2 in the league.

In the nightcap, all three SNHU runs came via the home run.  Kate Stanley (Kingston, Mass.) led off the game with a solo blast to left-center, while Andrea Clausi (Kingston, N.Y.) made it 3-0 in the second with her two run shot.   The Falcons would get two runs back in the top of the third but would get no closer.

Kelsey Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) worked the final 4.2 innings in relief for the Penmen and allowed just one hit to pick up the win.  She replaced starter Amanda Barton (Franklin, N.H.), who worked the first 2.2 innings and allowed five hits before being taken out by a line drive up the middle.

In the opener, Bentley broke open a scoreless game with six runs in the third, then added a seventh run in the fourth on a solo home run by Jasmine Ortiz.

Griffin took the loss for SNHU in the opener, allowing six hits and six runs in 2.2 innings of work.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday afternoon when it travels to UMass Lowell for a 3:00 doubleheader.
