COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College
men's lacrosse team (6-7, 5-5 Northeast-10 Conference) defeated
Southern New Hampshire, 17-8, on Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex
Saturday afternoon.
Senior Charlie Niznansky scored a career-high six goals and
added an assist. Also for the Purple Knights,
sophomore Andy Buccellato recorded three goals and one assist,
while senior James Baghai added three goals. Senior Charles
Seelinger chipped in with two goals and two assists, while senior
Mike Bednarz tallied one goal and four assists. Senior Zach Jandl
stopped three shots in each period to earn the victory.
For SNHU (4-10, 2-8 NE-10), sophomore Andrew Brown (Marshfield, Mass.) scored three goals, while senior
Terrence Nash (Oceanside, N.Y.) added two goals
and an assist. Freshman Greg Reynolds (Scituate,
Mass.) netted a goal and three assists for the Penmen, while junior
Eric Gunst (Exeter, N.H.) recorded 10 saves, while
sophomore Brendan O'Brien (Hopkinton, Mass.)
stopped one shot in the fourth quarter.
Saint Michael's never trailed, as the Purple Knights scored the
first four goals of the game to lead 4-0 7:10 into the game. SNHU
pulled to within 4-3 later in the frame but Saint Michael's
restored its four-goal lead in the second quarter, and led 8-5 at
halftime.
The Purple Knights sealed the win in the third quarter, as the
hosts scored all four goals in the period to lead 12-5 through
three periods. Saint Michael's extended that margin to 17-6 before
the Penmen closed the contest with two scores.
Saint Michael's converted for five man-up goals, and held a
48-29 edge in shots.
