SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Joey Kapinos
(Ludlow, Mass.) stopped six shots en route to fourth-ranked
Southern New Hampshire University's fourth straight shutout
as the Penmen topped American International College 2-0 in
Northeast-10 men's soccer Saturday evening at Abdow
Field. The Penmen improve to 6-0 (3-0 NE-10), their best
start since the 1992 season, while the Yellow Jackets are 1-4-1
(0-2-1 NE-10).
SNHU scored the lone goal of the
first half with just under six minutes remaining before
intermission. Mike Adam (Ludlow, Mass.)
played a ball from left to right inside the box that connected with
a surging Paul D'Angelo (Gloucester, Mass.),
who beat AIC keeper James Taber low.
The Penmen would strike again with
just over 20 minutes remaining. Adam took a long pass on the
left side and delivered a lob pass into the box. Taber
overplayed the pass and Danny Hernandez (Salem,
N.H.) knocked it home to make it 2-0.
Taber turned aside eight shots as
the Penmen outshot the Yellow Jackets 16-9. Southern New
Hampshire has not allowed a goal in its last 439:32.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action Wednesday night when it hosts UMass Lowell in a 7:00 contest
at Larkin Field.
