WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Justin Exum led four University of New Haven players in double figures with 20 points as the Chargers posted a 72-51 Northeast-10 men's basketball victory over Southern New Hampshire University Tuesday night at Charger Gymnasium. UNH improves to 4-13 and 3-11 in the NE-10 with the win, while the Penmen are 7-11 and 3-11 in the league.
Exum knocked down five of his 11 three-point attempts and was 7-15 overall. Jeremy Williams was 3-4 behind the arc and totaled 15 points, while Mike Stys, a product of Manchester Central HS, added 11 points. Robert Jamerson finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Greg DeSantis (Trumbull, Conn.) was the lone Penmen player in double figures as he scored 11 points. Josh Morgan-Green (Upper Marlboro, Md.) finished with nine points.
New Haven trailed just once, taking the lead for good four minutes in on a basket by Williams. The Chargers used a 17-3 run to open up a 20-6 advantage midway through the first half following a Jamerson layup. The hosts closed the half on a 12-2 run and led 37-17 at halftime. New Haven would lead by as many as 29 points over the final 20 minutes.
UNH shot 54.2% in the second half and 50.9% for the game while limiting the Penmen to just 35.3% shooting for the contest, including a 6-25 effort behind the arc, while the Chargers were 13-28 from long range. The hosts also held a 35-28 rebounding advantage.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Saturday when it hosts Assumption College in a 1:00 Northeast-10 contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
