MANCHESTER, N.H.—The Southern New Hampshire University softball team posted their fourth straight 1-1 day, splitting with the Le Moyne College Dolphins at Penmen Field on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action. With the split, the Penmen set their record to 8-16 and 6-4 in NE-10 play, while the Dolphins now sit at 7-13 overall and 5-3 in league play.
In the opener, both teams were held scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when a fielding error by Dolphin's left fielder Amanda Daum on Melissa Vitagliano's (Bedford, N.H.) fly ball allowed two runs to score. The Dolphins would bring the game within one after Kelcie Cashel walked and then scored on a double by Morgan Edmondson.
SNHU would tack on five more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Kelsey Cheney (Abington, Mass.) started off the inning with a single. With two outs, Cara Daly (Plainville, Mass.) drew a walk and advanced to second on a single by Brittany Young (Merrimack, N.H.). Amanda Barton (Franklin, N.H.) then walked to load the bases.
Daly would take home on a passed ball. Kate Stanley (Kingston, Mass.) would then reach first on a throwing error by Dolphins shortstop Sarah Vevante, which allowed Young and Barton to score the unearned runs and take the 7-1 lead.
Dolores Mattice (Schenectady, N.Y.) earned the win in the circle, taking over for Kelsey Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) who was hit by a line drive in the second inning. Griffin allowed three hits and no runs while striking out two. Mattice added four strikeouts and allowed one run on four hits.
Vitagliano provided the only scoring for the Penmen in the nightcap, hitting solo home runs in the fourth and seventh innings. The Dolphins scored single runs in the first and fourth innings while adding two more in the fifth and three in the seventh to post the 7-2 victory.
