NEW LONDON, N.H.
– Led by a second-place finish by sophomore Nick
Burke (Sandwich, Mass.), the Southern New Hampshire
University golf team finished second out of five teams at the SNHU
Penmen Invitational held at Lake Sunapee Country Club
Thursday. The Penmen, who posted a team score of 311,
finished two strokes behind Saint Anselm College. Saint
Michael's (315), Franklin Pierce (321) and UMass Lowell (332)
rounded out the field.
Burke, who posted a collegiate-best
round, finished one stroke behind medalist Tim Rattigan of Saint
Anselm, who carded a 74. Freshman Ernie
Lupi (Bradford, Mass.) finished with a six-over 76 to
finish in a tie for fourth place, while James
Hickey (Manchester, N.H.) carded a 79 to finish in a
four-way tie for eighth place.
Cody Carlson
(Wellesley, Mass.), who was competing as an individual for the
Penmen, finished 12th overall with an 80, while
Chris Weilandt (Franklin, Mass.) was tied for
14th with an 81. Jeff Atkinson
(Lancaster, N.H.) and Vince Kimball (Lebanon,
N.H.) finished with a score of 82 to tie for 20th, while
Matt Reims (Cheshire, Conn.) rounded out the
Penmen finishers with an 89. Atkinson and Reims also competed
as individuals.
The Southern New Hampshire
University golf team returns to action Sunday and Monday when it
competes at the Northeast-10 Golf Championship at Cyprian Keyes
Golf Course in Boylston, Mass.
