BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – LIU Post registered a 61-44 non-conference women's basketball victory over Southern New Hampshire University at the Pratt Recreation Center Sunday afternoon.  The Pioneers improve to 7-2 with the victory, while the Penmen now sit 5-5 on the season.

Nicolette Marciniak paced the Pioneers with 14 points, while Kenyatta Seats totaled 11 points and Alexis Peters added 10 for LIU Post.

Lorreta Rocha (Espargos, Cape Verde) led Southern New Hampshire with career highs in points (16) and rebounds (12) for her first double-double of the season.  Sloane Sorrell (Berwick, Maine) notched her fourth straight double-double and seventh of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Michelle DeRoma (West Roxbury, Mass.) added nine points.

The two teams traded the lead twice in the early going before LIU Post took control with 15 unanswered points to build a 20-5 lead following a Sears three 10:20 before halftime.  The Pioneers took their largest lead, 31-11, 4:12 before intermission, on a Marciniak basket.  Southern New Hampshire closed the half on a 12-6 run and trailed 37-23 at the break following a DeRoma basket with 11 seconds to go.

Southern New Hampshire opened the second half on a 7-2 run to pull within nine, 39-30, on a Victoria Wiseman (Montreal, Quebec) basket three minutes into the stanza.  LIU Post reclaimed control of the game with a 9-0 run capped by an Peters basket with 11:41 left that made it 50-32, and the Pioneers maintained at least a 14-point lead the rest of the way.

LIU Post shot 46.9% in the first half and 38.7% for the game while limiting the Penmen to 30.2% shooting on the afternoon.  The Pioneers outrebounded Southern New Hampshire 44-39 and went 9-12 from the free throw line, while the Penmen went just 11-21 at the charity stripe.

SNHU returns to action Sunday, January 6 when it hosts UMass Lowell in a 1:30 contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse.  All youth basketball players in eighth grade and younger wearing their team uniform will be admitted free of charge to that game.
