Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.—The Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-7 loss to Molloy College on Wednesday evening in non-conference action. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 0-2 on the season, while the win boosts the Lions 2-1.
The Lions took a 2-0 lead after the first quarter of action on goals by Kenny Lutz and Jimmy Davis, but the Penmen would respond with the first two goals of the second quarter to even the score to 2-2. Corey Allen (Suffield, Conn.) and Ryan Woodford (Scituate, Mass.) were credited with the goals.
Lutz would score back-to-back goals at the 10:02 and 06:56 marks to give the Lions the 4-2 advantage midway through the second quarter. The two teams would trade goals for the final minutes of the half, and the Lions would take the 6-4 lead into halftime.
Both teams would tally three goals apiece in the second half, but Molloy maintained the two-goal advantage to post the 9-7 final.
The Penmen were led by Greg Reynolds (Scituate, Mass.) who totaled two goals and an assist. Rob Murray (Marblehead, Mass.) added two goals, while Woodford added a goal and an assist, and Allen and Nick Popovici (Portsmouth, R.I.) added a goal apiece.
Lutz led the Lions with four goals, while Anthony Marino added three goals and an assist. Davis added a goal and two assists, while Kevin Catalano scored once and Ryan Kudlek added an assist.
Brendan O'Brien (Hopkinton, Mass.) took the loss in net for the Penmen and totaled 10 saves. John Grebe earned the win in net for the Lions and recorded 12 saves. Both teams recorded 19 shots on goal.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday, March 17 when they travel to Franklin Pierce for a 12:00 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference matchup.
