Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla.—The Southern New Hampshire University softball team extended their win-streak to six games today by downing Wilmington (Del.) 8-1 and Post 4-3 on the final day of action at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida.  With the wins, the Penmen improve to 7-3 on the season, while the losses drop Wilmington to 4-14 and Post to 1-9.

Rebecca Sherwood (Braintree, Mass.) earned her first collegiate start in the circle for the Penmen against Wilmington and scattered six hits and one earned run in the complete-game effort.  She struck out one while sacrificing no walks.

The Penmen took an early three-run lead after the top of the first inning as Nicole Newell (Abington, Mass.) and Cristy Jenkins (Hudson, Mass.) notched back-to-back singles, followed by a double by Cara Daly (Plainville, Mass.) that scored Newell.  Jenkins and Daly would score as Kelsea Cheney (Abington, Mass.) reached on an error.

Wilmington would respond in the bottom of the first with its lone run of the game.  The Penmen would carry the 3-1 lead until the top of the fourth inning, when Ali Maloof (Norwood, Mass.) led off with a single and scored on a double by Jenkins.  Daly would then single to put two runners on base, and Tesia Stanasek (Blackstone, Mass.) would crank her first collegiate homerun to tally three RBI and give the Penmen the 7-1 advantage.  The Penmen would add another run in the top of the sixth to clinch the 8-1 victory.

In the nightcap, the Penmen trailed 3-0 after the first inning of play, as Post totaled three singles and a double to score three runs.  The score would remain unchanged until the fifth inning, when SNHU's Kate Stanley (Kingston, Mass.) doubled and then scored on a single by pinch-hitter Jessica Douillette (Concord, N.H.).

The Penmen would take the 4-3 lead in the sixth inning when Stanasek singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Morgan Farmer (Kingston, N.H.).  Farmer was followed in the lineup by Stanley, who also singled.  Both Farmer and Stanley would advance a base on a sacrifice bunt by Barton, and would score as Maloof wheeled a triple.

Maloof started the game in the circle and pitched four innings, scattering five hits and two walks while striking out three.  Dolores Mattice (Schenectady, N.Y.) earned the win in the circle, pitching three innings in relief and sacrificing two hits and a walk while striking out one.

Southern New Hampshire is idle until Tuesday, March 20 when they host cross-town rival Saint Anselm College in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader.  The first game is slated to start at 4:00 p.m. at Penmen Field.
