MANCHESTER, N.H.—The Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-5 decision to No. 6 Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference play. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 3-7 overall and 3-5 in NE-10 action, while the win boosts the nationally-ranked Panthers to 9-2 overall and 5-2 in league play.
Rob Murray (Marblehead, Mass.), John Cuozzo (Norfolk, Mass.), Corey Allen (Suffield, Conn.), Ryan Woodford (Scituate, Mass.), and Chris Roach (Boxford, Mass.) all scored for the Penmen.
Adelphi was led by Joe Vitale who finished with five goals. Joe Celano added three goals and an assist, while Timothy Aiello scored three times and Danny Blau finished with two goals and two assists to round out the top scorers for the Panthers.
Adelphi took a 5-1 lead after one quarter of play on three goals by Vitale and a goal apiece by Celano and Rossi and an SNHU goal by Cuozzo. Adelphi would score three more in the second quarter to take the 8-1 lead at halftime. Adelphi outscored SNHU 9-4 in the second half to clinch the conference win.
SNHU goaltender Brendan O'Brien (Hopkinton, Mass.) took the loss in net for the Penmen and totaled seven saves in three quarters of action. He was relieved by Crosby Nicholson (Andover, Mass.) who recorded one save in the fourth quarter. Eric Janssen earned the win for the Panthers and totaled 10 saves in 37:51 of action. Adian Bennardo recorded seven saves in the final 22:09 of the game.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Tuesday, April 17 when it hosts Bentley University at 7:00 p.m. in Northeast-10 Conference action.
