MANCHESTER, N.H.—J.D. Ayer of the Bentley University men's lacrosse team totaled four goals to lead the Falcons to a 10-7 road win against the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference play. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 3-8 overall and 3-6 in NE-10 action, while the win boosts the Falcons to 3-6 overall and 3-3 in league action.
Rob Murray (Marblehead, Mass.) led the Penmen with three goals and an assist on the evening. John Cuozzo (Norfolk, Mass.) finished with two goals and two assists, and Jeremy Buckley (Norwell, Mass.) scored twice for SNHU. Corey Allen (Suffield, Conn.) dished out two assists and Will Vallette (Topsfield, Mass.) handed out one.
In addition to Ayer's four goals, Bentley was led by Brendan Grant with two goals and Steve Caditz, James Gilloran, Jordan Reals, and Dan Keefer who each recorded a goal.
Cuozzo scored twice and Murray scored once to give the Penmen the 3-1 lead after the first quarter of action, but five-straight Bentley goals in the second quarter put the falcons up 6-3 at half time.
Murray would notch back-to-back goals in the third quarter on assists from Cuozzo to bring the score to 6-5, but the Falcons outscored the Penmen 4-2 in the final quarter to clinch the 10-7 victory.
Leading the Penmen on defense was Ryan Woodford (Scituate, Mass.) who totaled five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Corey Hamilton (Tewksbury, Mass.) also posted five ground balls for SNHU and caused two turnovers.
Goaltender Brendan O'Brien (Hopkinton, Mass.) totaled a season-high 17 saves in the loss. Bentley goaltender Brian Karl recorded eight saves in the win for the Falcons. Bentley outshot SNHU 39-26 on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday for the final home game of the season, hosting Dowling College in non-conference action at 4:00 p.m. at Larkin Field.
