Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLCHESTER, Vt.--The Southern New Hampshire University softball team posted two wins against the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College by scores of 4-2 and 11-2 (5 innings) on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference play.  With the wins, the Penmen improve to 25-15 overall and 15-9 in NE-10 action, while the losses drop the Purple Knights to 5-29 overall and 3-23 in league play.

With the Penmen's 11-2 win in the nightcap, the team has now set a new program record for wins in a season, besting the previous record of 24 set during the 2007 season.

With her single in the top of the first inning in game one, Kate Stanley (Kingston, Mass.) became the 14th player in program history to reach her 100th career hit.

The Penmen would find themselves down 2-0 after two full innings of play as Saint Michael's scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead.

SNHU would respond in the top of the third as Ali Maloof (Norwood, Mass.) and Stanley both reached on singles and scored on a three-run home run by Kelsea Cheney (Abington, Mass.).

SNHU would tally their final run of game one in the top of the fifth inning as Stanley singled, advanced two bases on a single by Cheney, and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Tesia Stanasek (Blackstone, Mass.) to give the Penmen the 4-2 advantage.

Maloof earned the win in the circle for the Penmen and scattered five hits, one walk and two strikeouts.  Stephanie Frank took the loss for Saint Michael's and gave up 12 hits, four runs, and one walk while striking out two.

Stanley and Jessica Douillette (Concord, N.H.) both totaled three hits in the game to lead the Penmen at the plate.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Penmen notched 13 hits in five innings to score 11 runs.  Amanda Barton (Franklin, N.H.), Maloof, Cheney, Stanley, Cara Daly (Plainville, Mass.) and Nicole Newell (Abington, Mass.) all totaled two hits for SNHU, while Stanasek added a two-run home run.

Dolores Mattice (Schenectady, N.Y.) was pitching a no-hitter until the bottom of the fifth inning when Saint Michael's totaled two hits to score two runs.

Mattice earned her ninth win of the season and walked two while striking out five. Bethany Falls took the loss for the Purple Knights and scattered seven hits, five runs (one earned), and one walk in 2.2 innings.  Frank and Lauren Mercik both saw action in the circle as well.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action tomorrow when they travel to face Merrimack College in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader slated to start at 3:00 p.m.
