Box Score COLCHESTER, Vt.—The Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-7 loss to the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College in the final game of the season on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Rob Murray (Marblehead, Mass.) led the Penmen with three goals on the afternoon. John Cuozzo (Norfolk, Mass.) and Corey Allen (Suffield, Conn.) both notched a goal and an assist, while Ryan Woodford (Scituate, Mass.) and Jeremy Buckley added single scores.
The Purple Knights were led by Pete Donnally, who totaled a game-high seven points from six goals and one assist. Marty Vanzo notched two goals and two assists, while Paul Tortora Jr. scored three times.
Woodford would score the first goal of the game giving the Penmen the 1-0 edge, but the Purple Knights scored five times while holding the Penmen to just two goals in the first quarter of play. Each team would score just one goal each in the second quarter to enter halftime with a 6-3 score in favor of Saint Michael's.
The Penmen would kick off the second half of action with back-to-back goals by Rob Murray to bring the Penmen within one at 6-5. Donnally would score for Saint Michael's followed by a goal by Cuozzo to keep the Penmen within one at 7-6. The Purple Knights scored eight times in the final quarter while the Penmen scored just once to finalize the 14-7 score.
Brendan O'Brien (Hopkinton, Mass.) totaled 18 saves in his final appearance for the Penmen as the Purple Knights posted 62 shots in the afternoon. Chris DeMairo earned the win for the Purple Knights and posted seven saves in the win.
With the loss, the Penmen conclude the season at 3-11 overall and 3-7 in Northeast-10 Conference action, while the Purple Knights improve to 10-5 overall and 6-4 in NE-10 play.
