Golf Opens Season With Third Place at FPU Invitational

KEENE, N.H. – Led by a third-place finish by junior Scott Underhill (Bedford, N.H.), the Southern New Hampshire University golf team finished third out of eight schools at the Franklin Pierce Division II Invitational at Bretwood Country Club Sunday and Monday.  The Penmen held the lead after day one after shooting a 293, then carded a 315 on Monday to place seven strokes behind tourney champion American International College.

Underhill carded a three-under 69 on Sunday and a 77 on Monday to finish four strokes back of AIC's Ramon Ventura for medalist honors.  His 69 on Sunday is the lowest round carded by a SNHU golfer since Jeff Sullivan's 67 at the 2003 Northeast-10 Championship.

Junior Nick Burke (Sandwich, Mass.) finished in a tie for fifth place with a two-day score of 148, carding an even-par 72 on Sunday and a 76 Monday.  Cody Carlson (Wellesley, Mass.) followed his opening-round 72 with an 80 on Monday.  Jeff Atkinson (Lancaster, N.H.) (80-82-162) and Vince Kimball (Lebanon, N.H.) (81-87-168) rounded out the Penmen finishers.

Southern New Hampshire is idle until September 24-25 when it hosts the SNHU Penmen Invitational at Canterbury Woods Country Club in Canterbury, N.H.
