PHILADELPHIA, P.A. – Two Southern New Hampshire tennis players advanced at the ITA Regionals in Philadelphia Saturday. Mitch Dobek (Westfield, Mass.) and Juan Arango-Campo (Armenia Quindio, Colombia) both advanced to the second day of the tournament in doubles play and singles play.
The pair teamed up to compete in the Men's A doubles tournament where they defeated Philadelphia University Ayman Barakat and Dylan Bhaerman to move to the round of 16. The duo would then beat Andre Pellegrino and Nikolaj Wulf from Queens College with a score of 8-4 to advance to the round of eight. The pair will face Andreas Lindell and David Tisserand of Concordia College today. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Dobek and Arango-Campo would both shine in the Men's A singles tournament as well. Dobek got through to the round of 32 with a bye in the first round. He then advanced to the top 16 after beating Wulf of Queens by scores of 7-6 and 6-3. Arango-Campo also advanced to the top 16 while beating Mircea Dimofte of NYIT in a match that would be decided by a tiebreaker set. Arango-Campo would then beat Andreas Hammar with scores of 6-3, 3-6, and 10-8 to advance to the round of 16.
The ITA Regionals will continue today and the finals will take place on Monday, September 24.
