CANTERBURY, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University golf team finished second out of five schools at its own Penmen Invitational that wrapped up Tuesday at Canterbury Woods Country Club. The Penmen posted a 313 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 628, 12 shots behind tourney champion Franklin Pierce University (616). Saint Anselm College (635), Saint Michael's College (658) and The College of Saint Rose (329) rounded out the tournament field.
Junior Nick Burke (Sandwich, Mass.) led the Penmen by placing fourth with a two-day total of 154 after shooting a 76 on Tuesday. Burke finished seven shots back of medalist Brad Auclair of FPU, who followed his opening-round 75 with a even-72 Tuesday. Vince Kimball (Lebanon, N.H.) posted a 79 on Tuesday and finished one shot back of Burke in fifth place. Scott Underhill (Bedford, N.H.) carded an 80 for a two-day total of 159 to finish tied for eighth.
Ernie Lupi (Bradford, Mass.) improved by four strokes on Tuesday to finish with a 78 and a two-day total of 160 to finish in a tie for 10th. Jeff Atkinson (Lancaster, N.H.), competing as an individual, shot an 80 to finish tied for 14th at 165, while Cody Carlson (Wellesley, Mass.) posted a two-day total of 167 to place tied for 19th in the field.
The Southern New Hampshire golf team competes in the Northeast-10 Championship Sunday and Monday at En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott, N.Y.
