Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Ashlee Daoust (Brookline, N.H.) had a career game as she totaled 19 kills to help the Southern New Hampshire University volleyball team rally past American International College by a score of 3-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play Saturday afternoon. The Penmen are now 10-8, and 5-3 in the conference, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 11-12 and 5-4 in league play.
Games scores were 14-25, 30-28, 25-23, and 27-25.
After a slow start for the Penmen in the first set, Daoust and Emma Houlihan (Shoreham, N.Y.) each notched six kills in the second frame to lead SNHU to victory. Trailing 24-20 late in the set, the Penmen scored five consecutive points, including three Houlihan kills, to take their first lead of the game at 25-24. After trading the next seven points, Daoust tallied the last two points of the set to tie the match up at one-game apiece.
The hosts jumped out to an early lead in the third set when Maeghan Higgins (Hesperia, Calif.) notched a service ace for the first point of the game. SNHU continued to build its lead, and did not trail for rest of the set to take a 2-1 lead over the Yellow Jackets.
Daoust came up huge once again in the final set as she tallied seven kills, while teammate Nina McGouldrick (Richardson, Texas) added nine for the Penmen. Despite an early game deficit, SNHU was able to regain a five-point lead halfway through the set. However, American Int'l clawed its way back to tie up the game at 19-19. The race to 25 points was long for both teams as neither team could pull away with a larger lead than one late in the set. Tied up at 25-25, Daoust tallied her last two kills of the match to put away the Yellow Jackets and lead the Penmen to their second straight conference win.
Catherine Cotton (Murphy, Texas) totaled 46 assists for SNHU along with 14 digs. Higgins totaled 25 digs defensively, and McGouldrick added 14 digs as well.
The Penmen return to action Friday, November 1 when they travel to Pace University for a 7:00 pm league match.
