Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Nina McGouldrick (Richardson, Texas) totaled a game-high 14 kills to lead the Southern New Hampshire University volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Northeast-10 opponent LeMoyne College in league play Saturday afternoon. The Penmen improve to 12-10 overall and 7-5 in conference play. The win marks the team's most wins since the 2006 season. The Dolphins fall to 9-14 and 3-8 in the NE-10.
Game scores were 25-19, 25-15, 20-25, and 25-15.
SNHU led the Dolphins for the entire first match, and went up by as many as six points late in the set to grab the win.
The Penmen controlled the second set throughout. The hosts scored nine straight points, powered by three Ashlee Daoust (Brookline, N.H.) kills to take a 15-4 lead. SNHU continued to build its lead and took a 2-0 advantage heading into the third set.
The Dolphins were able to take the third set from the Penmen after overcoming an early 3-1 SNHU lead. The visitors took the first lead of the set on a Penmen attack error, and scored three straight points to go up 11-8 on SNHU. LeMoyne did not let up, and led by as many as seven points at one point. SNHU made an attempt at a comeback late in the set, trailing the Dolphins 24-17, the Penmen scored three straight to make it 24-20, but the deficit was too much, and the Dolphins forced a fourth set.
The fourth and final set was back-and-forth with the teams trading points early. However, Emma Houlihan (Shoreham, N.Y.) led a three-point run with two kills to give SNHU its largest lead of the set at 15-10. Another four-point streak was the difference as the Penmen were able to pull away with a seven point lead at 19-12, and four consecutive kills, capped off by a Daoust service ace lifted the Penmen past LeMoyne in four sets.
Megan Salamun (Scottsdale, Ariz.) was big for the Penmen today contributing 10 kills along with four blocks defensively, and Catherine Cotton (Murphy, Texas) added a game-high 42 assists for SNHU.
The Penmen return to action Tuesday, November 12 when they travel to Franklin Pierce for a Northeast-10 Conference game at 7:00 p.m.
