Box Score WALTHAM, Mass. – Courtney Finn finished with 23 points as second-ranked Bentley University eased past Southern New Hampshire University for a 70-50 Northeast-10 women's basketball victory Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center. The Falcons remain unbeaten and improved to 23-0 and 19-0 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 11-12 and 8-11 in the league.
Finn finished 9-12 from the floor, including a 3-4 effort behind the arc, while also grabbing five rebounds. Kelsey Roberson was the other Falcon in double figures, as she was 6-9 from three-point land and finished with 18 points on the afternoon. Jacqui Brugliera and Christiana Bakolas each totaled eight points, with Brugliera surpassing the 1,000 point mark for her career.
Morgan Munson (Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia) and Sloane Sorrell (Berwick, Maine) each totaled 10 points apiece to lead Southern New Hampshire, with Sorrell also grabbing 12 rebounds. Michelle DeRoma (West Roxbury, Mass.) finished with six points and now sits just three points shy of 1,000 for her career.
Munson had seven of SNHU's first nine points and her three 3:54 into the game put the Penmen down one, 10-9. A Finn three at the 13:09 mark made it 19-11 before four points by the Penmen halved the lead with 11:28 left on a Brooke Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H.) basket. Bentley used a 10-0 run to open a 31-17 lead on a Bakolas layup with seven minutes left that made it 31-17. The Falcons closed the frame on a 9-2 run to go into the locker room up 42-24.
The hosts maintained at least an 18-point cushion the rest of the way and a Roberson three with 14:38 left gave Bentley its largest lead, 55-28.
Bentley shot 60.7% in the first half and 44.8% for the game while limiting the Penmen to 33.3% shooting on the afternoon. The Falcons, who were outrebounded 39-35, were 9-17 behind the arc and took eight more trips to the free throw line, going 9-14 while SNHU was 4-6.
Southern New Hampshire plays its second straight nationally-ranked opponent Wednesday night when it travels to No. 18 Stonehill College for a 5:30 contest. The next Penmen home game is Saturday, February 23 when they host Merrimack College in a 1:30 game.
