GOFFSTOWN, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire men's tennis team defeated NYIT by a score of 5-4 in non-conference action Saturday evening. The Penmen improve to 8-4 on the season while the Bears are now 5-2.
The Penmen would take two out of three matches in doubles play, and win the top three singles matches to earn the win over NYIT.
Mitch Dobek (Westfield, Mass.) would pull out a tiebreaker win at the No. 1 singles spot as he battled Mircea Dimofte 6-4, 6-7, and 6-3. Juan Arango-Campo (Armenia Quindio, Colombia) would also win in a tiebreaker set at No. 2 singles play as he beat Filip Van Evlen by scores of 6-2, 2-6, and 6-1. At the number three position, Mike Wallace (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) would prevail in a 6-2, 7-6 win over Pedro Peixoto en route to the win.
In doubles play, Dobek and Wallace would defeat Dimofte and Tomas Lieb at the first double spot by a score of 9-7, while Arango-Campo and Evan Eaton (Winchester, Mass.) would also get a win in No. 2 doubles play by a score of 8-6 over Jaime Salvador and Nicolas Jubera.
The Penmen return to action on Thursday, March 21 when they travel to American Int'l College for a 3:00 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference match.
