THE MATCHUP: Southern New Hampshire hosts Pace University on Saturday for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at 1:00 p.m.
THE COACHES: Paul Calkins is in his 25th year as head coach. A former two-sport athlete at SNHU, he led the Penmen to a 7-4 record in his rookie season and followed up with an 8-3 campaign in 1990. The eight wins tied the school record for most victories in a season. Calkins lettered in lacrosse and hockey while a student at SNHU and totaled eight goals and 16 assists for the 1984 lacrosse team that finished 5-5. Dave Carty enters his ninth season at Pace with a 38-59 career record at Pace... he is just the 4th head lacrosse coach in the program's 23-year history...during his eight seasons at Pace, Carty has coached five All-American players...Pace went 5-10 overall and 3-7 in the NE-10 Conference for the 2012 year...coach Carty oversaw four lacrosse players that were selected to the Northeast-10 All-Conference team.
THE SERIES: Southern New Hampshire is 3-10 against Pace overall. Last season SNHU fell to the Setters by a score on 9-3 on the road.
THE PENMEN: SNHU is coming off its first win of the season and first in league play with a 10-7 margin over Assumption College last Saturday...freshman Cameron Joyce is leading the Penmen in points, and also sits fourth in the conference in goals with 10...Rob Murray has notched 12 points for the Penmen including nine goals and three assists, while John Cuozzo and Corey Allen have both added 10 points apiece...Crosby Nicholson has seen the majority of time in net for SNHU while totaling 42 saves, to put him fifth in the conference in saves.
THE SETTERS: Pace is coming off a loss to Le Moyne after winning three in a row...Matt Gebhardt is leading the Setters offense with eight goals and six assists for 14 points...Matthew Cossidente and Matt Mirabito have each added eight points apiece including four goals and four assists from Cossidente, and six goals and two assists from Mirabito...in goal for the Setters, Timothy Izzo has recorded 27 saves in four starts.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Penmen return to action on Tuesday, March 26 when they host Saint Michael's for a conference game at 7:00 p.m.
