Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire men's lacrosse team was defeated by Saint Michael's College in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup by a score of 9-5 Tuesday evening at Larkin Field. The Penmen are now 2-5 overall and 2-1 in the league, while the Purple Knights improve to 3-2 and 2-0 in the conference.
Phil LaTorre (Londonderry, N.H.) would register two goals for the Penmen, while Rob Murray (Marblehead, Mass.), Cameron Joyce (Braintree, Mass.), and Taylor Warden (Concord, N.H.) each scored one goal for SNHU.
The Purple Knights would dominate the first quarter while scoring four goals and holding the Penmen scoreless. A Scot Masingill goal followed by back-to-back Evan Antolino scores would build a quick 3-0 lead, and Pete Donnally would add to it in the last minute of the quarter to take a 4-0 lead heading into the second frame.
Joyce would answer in the second when he notched an unassisted goal just 1:15 into the quarter to put the Penmen on the board, but another Saint Michael's tally would build the lead back to four goals before halftime.
SNHU would outscore the Purple Knights in the third quarter while Allen and Murray both added a goal to bring the Penmen within three to close out the quarter.
However, Saint Michael's would score the first three goals of the final quarter to gain a quick six-goal lead. Back-to-back LaTorre goals would cut the deficit to four with just under five minutes to play, but the Penmen could not convert in the final minutes, and Saint Michael's would come out with the win.
Morgan Weireter (Oak Par, Calif.) would record 17 saves in the loss, while Chris DeMairo would be credited with the win while making two saves.
The Penmen return to action Saturday, March 29 when they travel to Adelphi University for a 1:00 p.m. league game.
