Box Score 2 COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Southern New Hampshire softball team took two games from Saint Michael's in a Northeast-10 doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. The Penmen improve to 26-12 overall and 16-6 in the conference, while the Purple Knights are now 2-34, and 2-23.
In the first game of the twinbill, Southern New Hampshire scored four runs en route to a 4-0 victory.
Scoreless through three innings, the Penmen notched their first run in the top of the fourth when Ali Maloof (Norwood, Mass.) singled up the middle to lead-off the inning. After advancing to second, the sophomore made it around the bases when Kate Stanley (Kingston, Mass.) hit an RBI single to give SNHU a 1-0 advantage.
Southern New Hampshire built on its lead in the sixth inning scoring two runs. Maloof led-off with another single followed by a Kelsea Cheney (Abington, Mass.) single through the left side. Mo Hannan (Scarborough, Maine) drove in Maloof with a sacrifice fly, and Cheney continued to score on a Saint Michael's throwing error.
The Penmen scored one more run in the final inning on another Purple Knight's error to secure the game at 4-0.
Maloof got the win in the circle while pitching a complete game and allowing just two hits and no runs with six strikeouts. Jessica Niland pitched the whole game for Saint Michael's while giving up four runs, six hits, and striking out two.
In the second game of the day, the Penmen took an early lead while defeating Saint Michael's by a score of 6-0.
In the top of the first, the Penmen scored two early runs to build a lead. Maloof and Cheney both scored unearned runs in the inning on Saint Michael's errors.
The second inning brought more runs for SNHU as Maloof recorded an RBI double to drive in Cristy Jenkins (Hudson, N.H.), and Holly Eicher (Stoneham, Mass.) who reached on a lead-off double.
Southern New Hampshire scored a run in the fourth and the fifth to put the run total at six. Christiana Galella (Eastchester, N.Y.) led the fourth inning off with a single, and scored on another Maloof RBI. In the fifth inning, SNHU scored once again on a Saint Michael's error.
Dolores Mattice (Schenectady, N.Y.) earned the shutout win in the circle while striking out four and allowing six hits in a complete game. Stephanie Frank was credited with the loss for Saint Michael's after giving up five runs in four innings.
The Penmen return to action Wednesday, April 24 when they travel to Saint Anselm for a 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. doubleheader.
