Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Four different Penmen recorded multiple goals Tuesday evening as the Southern New Hampshire men's lacrosse team defeated Saint Anselm College by a score of 11-7 in Northeast-10 Conference action. With the win, the Penmen are now 3-6 overall and improve to 3-2 in the league, while the Hawks are now 2-5 and 2-3 in conference play.
Rob Murray (Marblehead, Mass.) and Corey Allen (Suffield, Conn.) each totaled three goals on the night to lead all scorers. Murray also notched two assists for the Penmen, while Cameron Joyce (Braintree, Mass.) and Phil LaTorre (Londonderry, N.H.), added two goals, and Taylor Warden (Concord, N.H.) registered one.
The Penmen held the Hawks scoreless in the third quarter while slowing the Saint Anselm offense and allowing just one goal in the opening quarter and just two the final frame to earn the win.
Southern New Hampshire took an early lead in the first quarter when Crosby Nicholson (Andover, Mass.) assisted on back-to-back goals for Murray and Joyce. However, the Hawks answered back with less than five minutes to play in the quarter, but Murray notched his second goal of the game with 1:17 remaining to boost the Penmen lead to 3-1 to end the quarter.
The Hawks outscored the Penmen in the second frame while scoring the first four goals of the quarter to take a 5-3 lead, but Allen scored the final two goals of the half from Joyce and Nicholson in order to tie the game at 5-5 heading into halftime.
After the half, the Penmen scored four consecutive goals while holding the Hawks scoreless in the third quarter to gain a four-goal lead. Murray scored the first goal of the quarter at the 10:31 mark, followed by two LaTorre tallies. Joyce recorded the fourth score of the quarter, and his 18th on the season with just 25 seconds on the clock to make the score 9-5 heading into the final quarter.
The teams would trade goals in the fourth quarter, while Warden recorded his second goal of the season, and Allen scored his third of the game to seal the win.
Morgan Weireter (Oak Park, Calif.) was credited with the win in net for the Penmen while making nine saves, and Jonathon O'Reilly had seven saves for the Hawks in net.
The Penmen return to action Saturday, April 6 when they travel to Merrimack College for a 7:00 p.m. league game.
