Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire softball team dropped two Northeast-10 Conference games against Adelphi University Saturday afternoon. The Penmen are now 9-7, while the Panthers improve to 22-7.

A three-run homerun in the top of the third inning sparked the Adelphi offense, as they defeated SNHU by a score of 5-2 in the first game.

The homerun scored the first runs of the game. A Panther single followed by a fielder's choice, set up the three-run shot for Victoria Wink as she hit it out of left field to take a quick 3-0 lead.

In the following inning, Southern New Hampshire scored its first run of the game with two outs when Tesia Stanasek (Blackstone, Mass.) made it around the bases after reaching first on a walk. Cara Daly (Plainville, Mass.) knocked in Stanasek after hitting a single to center field, and to cut the run deficit to two runs.

However, Adelphi answered again in the fifth and again in the seventh inning. A Heiser single to left center scored Andrews who led off the fifth with a walk, and an Andrews RBI single scored Emily Dorko in the final inning.

Ali Maloof (Norwood, Mass.) pitched four innings for the Penmen while striking out 10 and giving up four hits, while Devon Kelly earned the win in the circle for the Panthers with five strikeouts.

In the second game of the day, Adelphi took an early five run lead in the first inning to defeat SNHU by a score of 7-1.

Wink connected for her second homerun on the day to score two runs early in the first inning, while Leo followed with a three-run blast to left field to take a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.

The Penmen answered in the second inning when Kelsea Cheney (Abington, Mass.) led off the inning with a double off the right field fence, followed by a Daly double to left center to score Cheney.

But Adelphi scored two more runs in the final two innings to push its lead to six runs and take the win.

Dolores Mattice (Schenectady, N.Y.) pitched 6.2 innings for the Penmen while striking out nine and giving up five hits, while Laurin Watts pitched a complete game for Adelphi striking out eight batters and giving up just one run.

The Penmen return to action tomorrow when they host Pace University for a league doubleheader at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. on Penmen Field.
