Manchester, N.H. –Junior Derrick Sylvester (Franklin, N.H.)of the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was selected to the Capital One Academic All-America Team as a Third Team selection, it was announced Thursday.
With Sylvester now added to the list Southern New Hampshire has had a total of 14 Capital One Academic All-Americans, including four in three sports in 2012-13. The Capital One Academic All-America and All-District teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Sylvester, a junior starting pitcher and Psychology major, bounced back nicely this season after missing the entire 2012 season. In 11 starts this season Sylvester went 6-2 with a 1.34 earned run average, striking out 71 batters in 73.2 innings of work and only walking 18. Opposing batters batted .236 against Sylvester this season.
Southern New Hampshire finished 35-19 overall and qualified for the NCAA East Regional for the second straight year.
