NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire
University men's golf team sits second out of eight teams
after the first round of the Northeast Challenge at Lake Sunapee
Country Club Saturday, posting a team score of 299. The
Penmen sit two shots back of tournament leader Bentley
University. American International College (303) is third,
followed by Assumption College (307) and Saint Anselm College
(308). Dowling College and Franklin Pierce University are
tied for sixth at 313, while Dominican (N.Y.) College sits eighth
after carding a 318.
Juniors Ernie Lupi
(Bradford, Mass.) (left) and Austin Fox (Hooksett,
N.H.) are two of four players who sit tied for second after
recording two-over 72s on the par-70 layout. They sit four
shots back of AIC's Austin Ball, who was the lone player to
break par at 68. Joe Fitzsimmons of Saint Anselm and Ryan
Hudson of Bentley also fired 72s.
Freshman John
Clancy (Sandwich, Mass.), playing as an individual for
Southern New Hampshire, sits tied for sixth after shooting 73 in
his collegiate debut Saturday, while senior Scott
Underhill (Bedford, N.H.) notched a 74 to sit tied for
eighth overall. Senior Vince Kimball
(Lebanon, N.H.), the other SNHU player playing as an individual,
shot a 79 and is tied for 25th overall.
Seniors Nick Burke
(Sandwich, Mass.) and Cody Carlson (Wellesley,
Mass.) posted rounds of 81 and 84, respectively, to round out the
Penmen finishers.
Second round action in the
Northeast Challenge commences Sunday morning at Lake Sunapee
Country Club.
