NEW LONDON, N.H.
– The Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team
finished two shots back of tournament champion Bentley University
to finish second out of eight schools at the Northeast Challenge
that wrapped up Sunday at Lake Sunapee Country Club. The
Penmen, who entered Sunday two shots back of the Falcons after
posting a 299 Sunday, followed up with a 300 on Sunday, as did
Bentley, which finished with a 597.
Franklin Pierce University had
Sunday's low score with a 297 to move into third with a
two-day score of 610, followed by Dowling College (613), American
International College (614), Saint Anselm College (616), Assumption
College (618) and Dominican (N.Y.) College (628).
SNHU's two-day score of 599 is the
fourth-lowest in program history, and the lowest since the Penmen
finished with a 596 at the 2008 SNHU Penmen Invitational.
Southern New Hampshire placed three
golfers in the top 10, led by junior Austin Fox
(Hooksett, N.H.), who posted a two-day score of 146 (72-74) to
finish second, three shots back of medalist Austin Ball of AIC, who
carded a 68 Saturday and a 75 Sunday. Senior Scott
Underhill (Bedford, N.H.) posted identical 74s in each
round to finish at 148, good for a tie for fourth. Freshman
John Clancy (Sandwich, Mass.), competing as an
individual, followed up his 73 Saturday with a 76 to finish at 149,
good for a tie for seventh.
Ernie Lupi
(Bradford, Mass.) finished in a tie for 11th after
recording a two-day total of 150. Cody
Carlson (Wellesley, Mass.) turned in a 74 on Sunday and
finished with a two-day score of 158, while Vince
Kimball (Lebanon, N.H.), also playing as an individual,
notched a 79 each round and also finished at 158 for the
tournament.
The SNHU men's golf team
returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Dowling September
Shootout at Long Island National Golf Course.
