PHILADELPHIA – Senior Alex Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) has reached the semifinals of the B singles bracket of the 2013 USTA/ITA East Regional that was held this weekend and hosted by Chestnut Hill College. Mukdaprakorn is slated to face Steven Say of the host Griffins Monday morning.
Mukdaprakorn reached the semifinals by defeating Matthew McCall of Roberts Wesleyan 8-0 in the first round then downed Peter Micu of University of the Sciences 8-0. In the round of 16, Mukdaprakorn defeated Philadelphia University's Long Vo 8-1, then in the quarterfinals, bested Carlos Quiroga of District of Columbia 8-5.
In other B singles action, Evan Eaton (Winchester, Mass.) and Mark Dobek (Westfield, Mass.) each posted opening round victories before falling in the round of 32.
Mitch Dobek (Westfield, Mass.), who was seeded fifth in the A singles draw, reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated by third-seeded Nicolas Auruccio of NYIT 7-6, 6-2. After a first-round bye, Mitch Dobek bested Vince Bellino of Merrimack 6-1, 6-1 in the second round, then in the round of 16, defeated NYIT's Nicolas Heintz 6-1, 6-2.
Juan Arango-Campo (Armenia Quindio, Colombia) reached the second round of the A singles draw after downing Stephen Galerkin 6-2, 6-3 in the first round before bowing out in the second round.
In B doubles action, Arango-Campo and Eaton reached the semifinals before falling to Say and Michael Humes of Chestnut Hill by an 8-3 count. The duo downed Julian Katzev and David Kazakevich of USciences 8-4 before posting an 8-4 quarterfinal triumph over Hugo Castalan and Chris Long of Caldwell College. Mark Dobek and Mukdaprakorn reached the second round of the bracket, defeating Adam Kerr and John LeMar of Daemen 8-6 before bowing out in the second round.
The SNHU men's tennis team returns to dual match action Wednesday afternoon when it hosts Saint Anselm College in a 3:30 Northeast-10 contest.
