Box Score KUTZTOWN, PA – Sophomore transfer Victoria Wehrmann (Dallas, Texas), in her Penmen debut, led the Southern New Hampshire volleyball team to a 3-0 shutout win over Davis and Elkins College at the Kutztown Tournament Friday evening. With the win, the Penmen are now 1-0, while the Senators fall to 0-2.
The Penmen took three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-13, and 25-21. Wehrmann totaled a game-high 15 kills, while Catherine Cotton (Murphy, Texas) dished out 22 assists.
The Penmen and the Senators traded points through the halfway point of the set, but SNHU pulled away after scoring eight straight, including three of Wehrmann's kills. Davis and Elkins did not catch back up, and the Penmen took the set by nine points.
Southern New Hampshire jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the second set, powered by Maeghan Higgins (Hesperia, Calif.) three service aces. The Penmen led by at least five points for the remainder of the set, and led by as many as 12 to seal the win.
SNHU led the Senators the entire final set, and completed the sweep on a Peyton Williams (Huntington Beach, Calif.) kill.
Higgins finished with four service aces along with 14 digs, while Emma Houlihan (Shoreham, N.Y.) added eight kills and a block.
The Penmen return to action tomorrow at the Kutztown tournament when they play Kutztown for a 10:30 am match, followed by West Chester at 4:30 pm.
