Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Bria Moore totaled a game-high 25 points to lead the University of New Haven to a 62-50 Northeast-10 women's basketball victory over Southern New Hampshire University at the SNHU Fieldhouse Tuesday evening. The Chargers upped their record to 13-6 and 8-5 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are 7-12 and 5-9 in the league.
Moore was 10-16 from the floor and also grabbed nine rebounds. Elizabeth Cruso finished with nine points for the Chargers, while Audrey Cunningham knocked down both of her three-point attempts and totaled eight points.
Junior Brooke Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H.) and freshman Sara Ryan (Quincy, Mass.) led Southern New Hampshire with 12 points apiece. For Springfield it marked the seventh time in eight games she reached double figures in the scoring column. Lorreta Rocha (Espargos, Cape Verde) added 10 points for the Penmen.
SNHU led by as many as four points in the early going and the game was tied 16-16 with just over five minutes left following a three by Ryan. New Haven closed the first half on a 12-2 run, and a three by Cunningham nine seconds before intermission gave the Chargers a 28-18 lead at the break.
The Penmen used a 10-4 spurt coming out of the locker room capped by a Ryan three at the 16:12 mark to pull within four, 32-28, but from there, New Haven countered with a 19-3 run to build a 51-31 lead with just under eight minutes to go. The Chargers led by as many as 23 before Southern New Hampshire closed the game on an 11-1 run to pull within 12.
New Haven knocked down six of its 13 three point attempts and shot 37.1% from the floor while limiting the Penmen to 27.1% shooting, with SNHU going 5-13 behind the arc. Southern New Hampshire, which was outrebounded 46-41, went 13-17 at the free throw line while UNH was 10-15 at the stripe.
Southern New Hampshire is idle until Wednesday, February 5, when it travels to Saint Anselm College for a 7:00 Northeast-10 contest. The next Penmen home game is Saturday, February 15, when SNHU entertains Stonehill College in a 1:30 tilt at the SNHU Fieldhouse. That game will be the annual Penmen Pink Day for breast cancer awareness.
