STONY POINT, N.Y. – Junior Jake Nutter (Bedford, N.H.) finished first for the fourth time in five tournaments this fall as the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team finished tied for second out of eight schools at the East Coast Conference Preview at Patriot Hills Golf Club Saturday and Sunday. The Penmen posted a 312 on Saturday and tied for low score on Sunday with a 307 to finish at 619, 19 strokes behind champion Saint Thomas Aquinas College.
The Penmen tied with Roberts Wesleyan University, with Post University (624) and Concordia (N.Y.) College (625) rounding out the top five.
Nutter, who has finished in the top three in all five of SNHU's tournaments this fall, sat tied for second after day one with a one-over 72, and fired a 73 on Sunday to finish at 145, three shots better than Kai Rastetter of Saint Thomas Aquinas.
Sophomore John Clancy (Sandwich, Mass.) and senior Austin Fox (Hooksett, N.H.) also turned in strong performances. Clancy finished tied for fifth, following up a 75 on Saturday with a 76 on Sunday for a two-day score of 151. Fox, after a 78 in round one, posted a 75 on Sunday to finish tied for 11th at 153.
Scott Underhill (Bedford, N.H.) (170) and Ernie Lupi (Bradford, Mass.) (185) rounded out the Penmen finishers.
Southern New Hampshire closes out the fall next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 27-28) when it travels to Cape Cod to compete in the annual NEIGA Championship at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
