Host Tritons Ease Past Penmen 67-49

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Rana Thomas totaled 25 points as Eckerd College downed Southern New Hampshire University 67-49 in women's basketball at the Eckerd Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday.  The Tritons improve to 5-1 with the victory, while the Penmen are now 3-4.

Kayla Bowlin finished with 18 points and six assists for Eckerd, while Victoria Vine added 11 points.

Southern New Hampshire was led by freshman Catherine Stinson's (Lynn, Mass.) 11 point effort, while also handing out three assists.  Erin Doherty (Marshfield, Mass.) and Brooke Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H.) finished with nine and eight points, respectively.

The two teams traded the lead three times in the early going, before a 13-2 Triton run gave the hosts a 19-8 lead nine minutes into the game.  SNHU cut the lead to seven twice, the latest on a pair of Springfield free throws with 6:29 left that made it 23-16, but Eckerd took a 33-21 lead into the locker room.  An 11-2 run to open the second half gave Eckerd a 44-23 lead and the Tritons maintained comfortable lead the rest of the way.

Eckerd shot 55.6% from the floor for the game while limiting the Penmen to 39% shooting.  Southern New Hampshire held a 31-27 rebounding advantage.

Southern New Hampshire returns to Northeast-10 play Wednesday night when it travels to Franklin Pierce University for a 5:30 contest.
