WILSON, N.C.
– Led by a fourth-place finish by junior Jake
Nutter (Bedford, N.H.), the Southern New Hampshire
University men's golf team finished fifth out of seven teams
at the Barton Intercollegiate at Wilson Country Club Monday and
Tuesday. The Penmen, who were sixth after Monday's
first round, shot a 329 on Monday and a 315 on Tuesday for a
two-day total of 644.
Nutter, making his Penmen debut,
carded a 78 on Monday and a 73 Tuesday to finish at 151, six shots
back of medalist Nicolas Fonseca of Barton College.
Nutter's 73 on Tuesday tied him for low round of the day with
Fonseca and Brady Hollenbacher of the University of Mount
Olive. He finished tied for fourth with Dermot McElhennon of
the host Bulldogs.
Freshman John
Clancy (Sandwich, Mass.) finished 28th overall
with a two-day total of 163, firing an 80 on Monday.
Scott Underhill (Bedford, N.H.) improved nine
strokes on Tuesday to record a 78 and a two-day total of 165 to
finish tied for 29th, while Austin Fox
(Hooksett, N.H.) recorded an 81 on Tuesday and a two-day score of
169 to place 35th. Vince Kimball
(Lebanon, N.H.) rounded out the Penmen finishers with a 172,
including an 84 in Monday's opening round.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action on Friday, March 28, when it travels to Long Island to take
part in the annual Peter King Memorial at Rock Hill C.C. in
Manorville, N.Y.
