Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Southern New Hampshire University softball team split a pair of non-conference games with Post University Tuesday afternoon. The Penmen are now 10-4 overall, while the Eagles are now 7-8.

In the first game of the day, a Lindsey Bolduc (Londonderry, N.H.) homerun in the first inning sparked an 8-0 win in six innings.

Bolduc homered in the bottom of the inning after Holly Eicher (Stoneham, Mass.) reached first on an error. The two-run shot gave the Penmen a 2-0 lead over the Eagles.

SNHU retired the side in the top of the second, and scored one more run in the inning to build on its lead. Tesia Stanasek (Blackstone, Mass.) reached on an error and advanced to second to start the inning. After one out, Eicher singled to left field to score Stanasek, unearned, and give the Penmen a 3-0 lead.

After a scoreless third inning, the fourth brought more runs for Southern New Hampshire. A pair of doubles from Mo Hannan (Scarborough, Maine) and Morgan Farmer (Kingston, N.H.) drove in four more runs, and gave the hosts a 6-0 advantage.

The scoring was not done, as the Penmen were able to get one more on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Bolduc led-off the inning with a double to center field, and Farmer was able to reach on an error to get two on base. A sacrifice bunt advanced both runners into scoring position, and Katie Caruso (Newton, Mass.) followed with a single through the left side to score Bolduc.

Ali Maloof (Norwood, Mass.) pitched six innings in the circle while allowing two hits, no runs, and striking out five. Samantha Esque pitched 5.1 innings allowing 14 SNHU hits and eight runs.

In the second game of the day, six first inning Eagles' runs were the difference as Post defeated SNHU by a score of 9-3.

The Penmen jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Maloof led-off with a single up the middle, and a Hannan single advanced her to second. Bolduc then reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases, and Farmer followed with another fielder's choice to score Maloof. With the bases still loaded, rookie Jessica Torsiello (Morris Plains, N.J.) came up big with a double to left field to score Bolduc and Hannan, and give the Penmen a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the inning.

Despite trailing 3-0, Post connected for six hits in the bottom of the first to score six runs. Three consecutive singles followed by two errors scored the first two runs, and then a double and a homerun scored four more runs for the Eagles, who took a 6-3 lead.

After a quick second inning for the Penmen who did not get on base, Post scored two more runs in the second inning to build its lead to 8-3.

The Penmen could not get anything going, and were unable to answer the Eagles in the next two innings.

The fourth inning brought more scoring for Post when Kayla Kresley hit a solo homer to left field for the biggest lead of the day at 9-3.

Dolores Mattice (Schenectady, N.Y.) got the loss in the circle giving up five hits and six runs. Rebecca Sherwood (Braintree, Mass.) pitched six innings while allowing eight hits, three runs, and striking out two.

The Penmen return to action on Thursday, March 27 when they travel to Franklin Pierce for a 4:00 p.m. league game.
