LUDLOW, Mass.
– Led by Jake Nutter's (Bedford, N.H.)
second place finish, the Southern New Hampshire University
men's golf team finished second out of five schools at the
AIC Spring Classic Friday at Ludlow Country Club. The host
Yellow Jackets won the event at 605, with the Penmen, who are
ranked seventh in the initial NCAA East Region ranking released
Wednesday, finishing two shots back at 607 (297-310-607).
Bentley University (628), Franklin Pierce University (634) and
Western New England University (637) rounded out the field.
Both rounds were played Friday.
Nutter finished one stroke back of
Miguel Sericke of AIC for medalist honors, carding a 143. He
fired a four-under 68 in the opening round, with his 68 matching
the third-best round in program history, and the best round by a
Penmen player since Jeff Sullivan posted a 67 on September 21,
2003. Nutter posted a 75 in Friday's second round.
Freshman John
Clancy (Sandwich, Mass.) and senior Scott
Underhill (Bedford, N.H.) also posted top 10 finishes for
the Penmen. Clancy posted identical 75s to place fifth, while
Underhill had a 77 followed by a 79 to finish in a tie for
eighth.
Austin Fox
(Hooksett, N.H.) (77-81-158) placed 13th overall while
Vince Kimball (Lebanon, N.H.) shot 77 in the first
round and 160 for the tournament to place tied for
17th.
Southern New Hampshire wraps up the
regular season Sunday and Monday when it travels to the Mike Bello
Invitational at Timber Banks Golf Club in Baldwinsville, N.Y.
