Men's Lacrosse Cruises to Victory over Saint Rose

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Seven different players notched a goal for the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team in a 16-5 Northeast-10 Conference win over Saint Rose Saturday afternoon on Larkin Field. The Penmen are now 4-6 overall and 4-4 in league play, while the Golden Knights fall to 2-10 overall and 2-7 in the conference.

Corey Allen (Suffield, Conn.) led the Penmen with six points, including a game-high five goals and one assist. Jeremy Buckley (Norwell, Mass.) notched four goals and a helper for five points, while Cameron Joyce (Braintree, Mass.) totaled three goals for SNHU. Phil LaTorre (Londonderry, N.H.) registered three assists along with a score, and Rob Murray (Marblehead, Mass.) had three assists in the win.

Southern New Hampshire came out in the first quarter dominating, scoring five unanswered goals. LaTorre put the hosts on the board first with a score from Murray at the 13:13 mark, followed by two more tallies from Joyce and Buckley within a minute of each other to up the lead to 3-0. Allen scored the fourth goal for the Penmen at the 6:02 mark, and Joyce closed out the quarter with his second of the game with under five minutes to play.

Saint Rose answered in the second quarter scoring three consecutive goals to cut the lead to two, and holding the Penmen scoreless through the first 14 minutes. However, with under a minute to play, Allen scored back-to-back goals, including a man-up score from LaTorre with 48 seconds, and another goal with six seconds left from Murray to regain the four-goal lead heading into the half.

The Penmen held the Golden Knights scoreless in the third quarter, while putting eight more goals on the board to go up 15-3. Zach Jacobs (Tewksbury, Mass.) started the run when he scored just 31 seconds into the frame from Keifer Heckman (Peabody, Mass.). Crosby Nicholson (Andover, Mass.) followed with another SNHU goal at the 11:22 mark, and Allen notched his fourth score from Buckley at the 7:14 mark to go up 10-3. Buckley scored the next two, and scored one more for his third of the period, and Patrick Goff (Nashua, N.H.) closed out the third with his first collegiate goal with 30 seconds to play.

Allen scored his final goal of the game, and the last SNHU goal 50 seconds into the final quarter unassisted, and the Golden Knights notched two fourth quarter goals to bring the final tally to 16-5.

Morgan Weireter (Oak Park, Calif.) earned the win in net for the Penmen saving seven shots in 49:18 of work, while Joe Shapiro got the loss in net for Saint Rose making 13 saves.

The Penmen return to action Wednesday, April 16 when they host Bentley for a league game at 7:00 p.m.
