Box Score EASTON, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire softball team was defeated by a score of 4-3 to Stonehill College Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Penmen are now 19-9 overall and 8-5 in the conference, while the Skyhawks improve to 15-14 and 10-5 in league play.
After three scoreless innings, the Penmen were able to get some runs on the board. Jessica Torsiello (Morris Plains, N.J.) led-off the inning with a single to the shortstop to get on base, and Cara Daly (Plainville, Mass.) followed with a single to advance the freshman. Torsiello then made it home on a Morgan Farmer (Kingston, N.H.) RBI single to make it 1-0. A Stonehill error scored another Penmen run, and Mo Hannan (Scarborough, Maine) singled to score the third run to go up 3-0.
The Skyhawks slowly chipped away at the lead scoring a single run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the three-run deficit to two.
Stonehill struck again in the seventh inning scoring three runs to take the game from SNHU. With two outs, a pair of back-to-back singles scored two runs to tie the game at 3-3. With the winning run on third base, Ruonavaara singled down the left field line to win the game in walk-off fashion.
Ali Maloof (Norwood, Mass.) pitched 6.2 innings, while totaling nine strikeouts and allowing eight hits and four runs. Cassandra Squeri got the win in the circle for the Skyhawks striking out one batter in 1.2 innings of work.
The Penmen return to action tomorrow, Monday, April 14 when they travel to Franklin Pierce for a 4:00 p.m. league game.
