THE MATCHUP: Southern New Hampshire hosts Mercy University for a non-conference game Tuesday on Larkin Field.
THE COACHES: Paul Calkins is in his 25th year as head coach. A former two-sport athlete at SNHU, he led the Penmen to a 7-4 record in his rookie season and followed up with an 8-3 campaign in 1990. The eight wins tied the school record for most victories in a season. Calkins lettered in lacrosse and hockey while a student at SNHU and totaled eight goals and 16 assists for the 1984 lacrosse team that finished 5-5. Jordan Levine is in his second season with Mercy. As an assistant coach with the men's lacrosse team the past four years, Levine has helped to lead the startup program to attain a No. 7 national ranking in 2011 and has coached several All-Conference and All-America student-athletes.
THE SERIES: The Penmen are 0-1 against Mercy, the last time the two teams met was last season with the Mavericks taking the game by a score of 10-8.
THE PENMEN: SNHU is coming off a 21-2 loss to No. 2 LeMoyne Saturday...junior Jeremy Buckley leads the Penmen in points with 32 through 26 goals and six assists...Senior Rob Murray leads the Penmen in assists with 16 and also has scored 12 goals for 28 points...sophomore Cameron Joyce has also recorded 28 points, including 22 goals and six assists...senior goalie Morgan Weireter has seen the majority of time in net resulting in 157 saves with a 57.9% save percentage.
THE MAVERICKS: Mercy is coming off of an 8-7 overtime win at Molloy Saturday...Jesse Wood leads the team in points with 76...he has scored 42 goals and recorded 34 assists with a .472 shooting percentage...Kyle Stockton has recorded 19 points for the Mavericks through 12 goals and seven assists, while Zack Haun has scored 16 goals along with two assists for 18 points...A.J. Pellati has started all 13 games in goal for Mercy, totaling 112 saves, with a .528 save percentage.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Penmen host American Int'l Saturday, April 26 for their last regular season home game at 1:00 p.m. on Larkin Field.
