Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H.—Jeremy Buckley (Norwell, Mass.) led the Penmen with four points in a 15-6 Northeast-10 Conference loss for the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team against No. 8 Merrimack College. The Penmen fall to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in the league, while the Warriors are now 6-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
Buckley anchored the Penmen scoring with three goals, to go along with one assist. Phil LaTorre (Londonderry, N.H.) had two points for the Penmen with one goal and one assist. Crosby Nicholson (Andover, Mass.) and Matthew Auger (Nashua, N.H.) each scored one goal for SNHU.
Merrimack jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead until Auger scored his first goal of the season to cut the lead to 2-1 with 4:03 remaining in the first. The Warriors then came on strong and went on a 5-0 run to end the quarter with a 7-1 lead.
The Warriors picked up right where they left off scoring two more unanswered goals to make the score 9-1 with 6:36 remaining in the second. However, SNHU answered with two straight goals from Buckley to cut the lead with 2:07 remaining. Merrimack's Mike Perdie then scored with 46 seconds to make it 10-3 going into halftime.
At the beginning of the third quarter, Buckley scored his third goal of the game for the Penmen to cut the lead to 10-4 with 8:18 remaining. The Warriors retaliated by netting three straight, including two from Tim Towler to make it 13-4 with 2:55 to play in the third. SNHU answered with 1:03 remaining with a LaTorre goal to make it 13-5 heading into the final frame.
Nicholson came out and scored with 9:45 left in the fourth to cut the lead to seven. However, the Warriors came back to score back-to-back goals by Scott Corcoran and Paul Gallagher with 3:02 remaining and close out the game.
Morgan Weireter (Oak Park, Calif.) made 13 saves and was handed the loss, while Dom Madonna made 10 saves and got the win for the Warriors.
The Penmen return to action on Wednesday, April 9 when they travel to Franklin Pierce for a conference game at 4:00 p.m.
