Box Score 2 MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire softball team dropped two Northeast-10 Conference games at home to Southern Connecticut State University Sunday afternoon by scores of 3-2, and 7-1. The Penmen are now 15-7 overall and 4-3 in league play, while the Owls stand at 9-13 overall and 2-7 in the conference.
In the first game of the day, the Owls jumped out to an early lead in the first inning on three consecutive singles, and a sacrifice fly.
The Penmen answered in the bottom of the second with a run to tie it up at 1-1. Morgan Farmer (Kingston, N.H.) scored the run after singling down the left field line, and moving around the bases on a Katie Caruso (Newton, Mass.) sacrifice fly.
A two-run homer in the next inning for Southern Connecticut regained the visitors' lead at 3-1.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Penmen were able to put one more run on the board as Ali Maloof (Norwood, Mass.) led-off with a double to left center, and advanced to third on a stolen base. Mo Hannan (Scarborough, Maine) batted Maloof in to score another run and cut the lead to one.
Neither team was able to score again, and the Owls took game one by a score of 3-2.
Maloof pitched seven innings for the Penmen, striking out nine batters, and allowing five hits and three runs. Audrey Dolloff also pitched a complete game totaling four strikeouts and giving up four hits and two runs.
In the second game of the day, the Owls defeated the Penmen by a score of 7-1.
Southern Connecticut scored a pair of runs in the first two innings to go up 4-0 on the Penmen heading into the third.
SNHU answered in the bottom of the third inning after Maloof got on base with a single, and got into scoring position after stealing. Hannan recorded another RBI as she drove in Maloof on a groundout to the shortstop to cut the Owls' lead to three runs.
But, Southern Connecticut scored two more runs in the following inning to go up 6-1, and scored once more in the seventh to secure the game.
Maloof got the loss in the circle pitching the first 1.2 innings and giving up six hits and four runs. Dolloff got her second win of the day for the Owls going seven innings and striking out two.
The Penmen return to action Tuesday, April 8, when they travel to Saint Michael's for a league doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
