STORRS, Conn. – Southern New Hampshire University jumped out to an early lead after winning two of three doubles matches, but dropped a hard-fought 4-3 non-conference men's tennis match to the University of Connecticut Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies upped their record to 7-11, while the Penmen are now 15-5 on the season.
SNHU picked up the doubles point by winning two of three matches. Mitch Dobek (Westfield, Mass.) and Mike Wallace (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) posted an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while Juan Arango-Campo (Armenia Quindio, Colombia) and Alex Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) were 8-6 winners at No. 2.
In singles action, Arango-Campo downed Ryan Carr 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2, while Wallace was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 3. Dobek dropped a battle to Wayne Harrell at No. 1, suffering an injury midway through the match and eventually falling 6-4, 7-5. The Huskies swept No. 4-6 singles to earn the win.
Southern New Hampshire closes out the regular season Saturday when it hosts Bentley University for a 3:00 Northeast-10 match.
