PREVIEW: Softball, New Haven Rematch in NCAA East Regional First Round Friday

THE PENMEN: Southern New Hampshire enters the NCAAs for the second time in program history fresh off of its first ever Northeast-10 Conference Championship last weekend…the Penmen defeated Adelphi by a score of 8-0 in a semi-final game Saturday, and then prevailed over New Haven by a score of 4-0 to win the conference title on the Charger's home field…SNHU is led by junior Ali Maloof who threw her fourth no-hitter of the season, and fanned 11 batters in the league championship Sunday…she has totaled a 1.36 ERA thus far on the season, totaling 221 strikeouts in 179.2 innings pitched…Maloof is leading the team at the plate, batting .356 with a team-best 35 hits and 35 runs…she also has 16 RBIs with six doubles, two triples, and two homeruns…sophomore Katie Caruso is batting .351 for the Penmen had has a team-best eight homeruns…she has 47 hits on the season including 11 doubles and a triple with 31 RBIs…Lindsey Bolduc leads the squad in RBIs with 37...the sophomore is batting .333 and has totaled 42 hits including 11 doubles and seven homeruns…she has also scored 24 runs for the Penmen…Rebecca Sherwood has seen action in 12 games this season with three starts… the junior has a 4.06 ERA and has recorded 11 strikeouts along with a team-best three saves this season.

THE CHARGERS: New Haven made it to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship last Sunday, but was defeated by a score of 4-0 to the Penmen…Meghan Chamoff leads the Charger offense with a .330 average…she has 34 hits, including three triples, 19 runs, and 10 RBIs for New Haven…Brandy Dianno is batting .329 with a team-high 53 hits…she has totaled six doubles and three triples along with 35 runs, good for first on the team…Lindsey Couturier is also batting .329 for New Haven…she has a team-best 47 RBIs and 11 homeruns…Courturier has totaled 47 hits and 25 runs…Victoria Cabral leads the Chargers' pitching staff with a 1.24 ERA…she has fanned 134 batters this season…Nicole King has a team-best 150 strikeouts in the circle with a 1.95 ERA.

HEAD TO HEAD: The Penmen are 9-29 overall against the Chargers. This season SNHU has defeated New Haven two out of three times, with the most recent win coming in the NE-10 title game.

WHAT'S NEXT: The winner of the game will play the winner of No. 1 LIU-Post/No. 8 Wilmington Saturday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. The loser of tomorrow's game will play in a game against the loser of Friday's second game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
