THE PENMEN: Southern New Hampshire is ranked No. 1 nationally and is the top choice in the Northeast-10 preseason poll...the Penmen return 20 players from a season ago, a season in which SNHU went 22-1-1, and won the Northeast-10 Tournament and NCAA Division II National Championship...on Wednesday the Penmen beat No. 25 Post 4-2.. junior newcomer Jose Seoane leads the Penmen also two goals and a assist... graduate student Brian Grisell also has two goals on the young season... junior Sebastian Stezewski, senior Kenny Doublette, sophomore Ryan Reynolds, and junior Dominic Samuel have all tallied one goal through the first two games...senior Dom Dimaggio is 2-0 in net for the Penmen with three saves and one shutout.
HEAD COACH MARC HUBBARD: Marc Hubbard enters his seventh season as head men's soccer coach at SNHU...the 2013 NSCAA Division II Coach of the Year, and a three-time Northeast-10 Coach of the Year, Hubbard has guided the Penmen to six straight NCAA berths, including the 2013 national championship, and owns a career 102-19-13 (.810) record.
THE MAVERICKS: The Mavericks are coming off of a 3-1 loss in their home opener against American International on Wednesday...sophomore Gonzalo Prando leads Mercy with two goals and four points...senior Danny Leon Jr. has the other goal the Mavericks have registered this year... seniors Jonathan Garcia, Tafari Newman, and Alex Cruz each have an assist apiece through the Mavericks first three games... sophomore Kieran Moran has appeared in two of three games in goal, registering seven saves and allowing five goals generating a .583 save percentage and 3.33 goals against average...the Mavericks were picked fifth in the East Coast Conference preseason poll after going 11-4-4 a season ago.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Penmen head out to Rindge, N.H. for their first road contest of the season as they take on Franklin Pierce Wednesday at 7:00pm to open up Northeast-10 Conference play...the team is back at home next Saturday as they host New Haven in a 7:00pm game.
NEWS AND NOTES: SNHU currently owns a 25-game unbeaten streak dating back to last season...the Penmen have won 15 in a row at Larkin Field...the 25-game unbeaten streak is a program record...DiMaggio's shutout last Thursday was the 20th of his career, placing him tied for fourth in program history with Sean Lambert (2005-09)...SNHU's eight goals through the first two games are the most to open a season since 2003, when the Penmen scored 11 times in two contests, including a 9-0 blanking of Concordia (N.Y.)...Wednesday's game against Post marked the first time SNHU has allowed multiple goals in a contest since the 2012 national quarterfinal against Mercyhurst, a 2-0 setback.
