NEW LONDON, N.H. – Anchored by Jake Nutter's (Bedford, N.H.) two-under 68 to lead the field, the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team sits second out of 10 schools after Saturday's first round of the Northeast-10 Championship at Lake Sunapee Country Club. With a team score of 299, the Penmen sit two shots back of Bentley University, who had all five players card rounds in the 70s.
Le Moyne College (301), Assumption College (304) and American International College and Franklin Pierce University (309) round out the top five.
Nutter, who was the only player to break par on the par-70 layout on Saturday, holds a four-shot advantage over Cal Meyers and Jon Stoddard, both of Bentley. Miguel Sericke of AIC and Aaron Burton of Adelphi sit tied for fourth at 73.
Nutter's round consisted of five birdies and three bogeys. He sat even through 16 holes before posting birdies on the final two holes, the par-5, 500-yard 17th, and the par-4, 437-yard 18th to come in under par.
The Penmen placed two other players in the top 20. Scott Underhill (Bedford, N.H.) sits tied for sixth with a round of 74, while Austin Fox (Hooksett, N.H.) turned in a 77 to sit tied for 20th overall.
John Clancy (Sandwich, Mass.) posted an 80, while Ernie Lupi (Bradford, Mass.) recorded a 93.
Sunday's second and final round tees off at 10:00 am at Lake Sunapee.
