FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team competed at the ITA East Regional hosted by Queens (N.Y.) College this past weekend and had several strong performances.
In the B doubles flight, Brad Malenich (Sharon, Mass.) and Jeremy Reichentahl (Cheshire, Conn.) reached the semifinals. They downed Farrukh Edgarov and Adam Pizow of Queens 6-2 in the round of 16 before upending Jared Drzal and Jon Sanders of Stonehill 6-2. In the semifinals, the pair was blanked by Alejandro Perez and Peter Fanous of Post 6-0.
Reichentahl also reached the round of 16 in the B singles draw, edging Pedro Viscaino of Cladwell 7-6 in the first round. He topped Edgarov 7-5 in the round of 32 before succumbing to Jonathan Ducretrot of Chestnut Hill 7-5 in the round of 16.
In the A singles draw, Peter Wylie (Cedar Grove, N.J.) reached the round of 16. After an opening-round bye, Wylie topped Chiwete Njokanma of Adelphi 6-4, 6-2 before falling to Juuso Ojanen of Concordia (N.Y.) College, the tournament's No. 1 seed, 6-2, 6-1.
The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Franklin Pierce University in a 3:00 Northeast-10 match.
