Southern New Hampshire University sophomore Joshua LaCasse (Bow, N.H.) carded an opening-round 71, and holds a two-shot lead heading into Monday's final round at the Franklin Pierce University Invitational. The Penmen combined to shoot 300 on Sunday and sit just one shot back of Bentley University after day one.
LaCasse was the only student-athlete to finish the round under par, and he leads a field of 59 golfers from more than 12 institutions.
Senior Jake Nutter (Bedford, N.H.) and junior John Clancy (Sandwich, Mass.) currently sit in a tie for seventh after they each turned in a 75. Freshman Etienne Bourgoin (Abington, Mass.) shot a 79 and is tied at No. 20, while classmate Gavin Dugas (Pittsfield, Maine) rounded out the Southern New Hampshire contingent with an 81, good enough for a tie at No. 26.
Notes:
- LaCasse's 71 is his lowest round this season.
- Franklin Pierce University "A" (309), Nyack College (314) and Assumption College (315) round out the top-five heading into the final round.
- Cal Meyers and Doug Kulikowski of Bentley are tied for second after they each posted a 73 on Sunday.
