The Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team holds a three-shot lead after day one of the 81st Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Division II Championship at the Captains Course in Brewster, Massachusetts.
The Penmen carded a combined score of 306 after 18 holes and lead Bentley University, which shot a 309 on Sunday. Assumption College (312), Franklin Pierce University (315) and Saint Michael's College (319) round out the top-five institutions after the first day.
Senior Jake Nutter (Bedford, N.H.) and junior John Clancy (Sandwich, Mass.) are tied for third after they each fired a first-round 75. Freshman Gavin Dugas (Pittsfield, Maine) also finished the opening round in the top-10, as his 18-hole total of 77 slotted him in a tie for eighth heading into Monday. Sophomore Joshua LaCasse (Bow, N.H.) and freshman Etienne Bourgoin (Abington, Mass.) each shot a 77 on Sunday and are part of a tie for No. 16.
Notes:
- The Penmen finished second at the NEIGA Division II Championship in 2014 as part of an eight-team field.
- The NEIGA Division II Championship features 45 golfers from nine institutions.
- Tye Morrison of Adelphi University sits in the lead after a -1 (71) on Sunday and American International College's Max Bock is second at +2 (74).
