Score: Southern New Hampshire University (306-303-609) – 1st/9
The Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team earned its third tournament title of the fall on Monday, as it captured the 2015 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at The Captains Course in Brewster, Massachusetts. The Penmen shot a two-day total of 609 to take championship by four strokes over Bentley University.
SNHU entered Monday's final round with a three-shot lead over the Falcons and stretched its advantage to four shots after a second day score of 303. Bentley finished in second after combining for a team score of 613, while Assumption College (633), Saint Anselm College (634) and Franklin Pierce University (638) completed the top-five.
The Penmen occupied three of the top-four places on the individual leaderboard at the close of the championship. Freshman Gavin Dugas (Pittsfield, Maine) carded a one-under, 71 on Monday to finish second with a tournament total of 148. Senior Jake Nutter (Bedford, N.H.) and junior John Clancy (Sandwich, Mass.) tied for third overall after shooting identical 75s on Sunday and 76s on Monday for two-day score of 151.
Sophomore Joshua LaCasse (Bow, N.H.) followed his opening round 79 with an 80 in the finale for a 159 to tie for No. 16, and freshman Etienne Bourgoin (Abington, Mass.) totaled a 162 (79-83) to finish in a tie at No. 22.
Notes:
- Monday's victory marked the third tournament championship of the fall for Southern New Hampshire in six events. The Penmen previously claimed the Le Moyne Fall Preview (9/11-9/12) and the 2015 Northeast-10 Conference Championship (10/4-10/5).
- Dugas and Nutter each posted their third top-five finish of the season, and Clancy placed in the top-five for the second time.
- Bentley's Malcolm Oliver earned medalist honors with a two-round score of 142.
What's Next:
Southern New Hampshire University has concluded its fall season and will return to action in the spring. The Penmen's spring schedule, as well as dates for the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional will be announced over the winter.
