The Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team holds a one-shot lead over defending league champion Bentley University following the first round of the Northeast-10 Men's Golf Championship Sunday.
The Penmen finished +2 for the round at 290, with the Falcons at 291. The College of Saint Rose and Le Moyne College sit tied for third at 297, with Assumption College fifth at 315.
Defending NE-10 Player of the Year Jake Nutter (Bedford, N.H.) sits third after turning in a round of 71, one shot behind co-leaders Brett Chatfield of Bentley and John Clare of Le Moyne. Junior John Clancy (Sandwich, Mass.) finished at even par and is tied for fourth, while Joshua LaCasse (Bow, N.H.) birdied two of the final three holes to finish at +1 and tied for seventh.
Gavin Dugas (Pittsfield, Maine) is tied for 11th after he registered a 74, while Etienne Bourgoin (Abington, Mass.) finished at 81 and is tied for 33rd.
Notes:
- Franklin Pierce University, Saint Anselm College, American International College, Adelphi University and Saint Michael's College round out the field.
- SNHU last won the Northeast-10 championship in 2002 and has finished third in each of the past two seasons.
